Where Vibe Island is better

A long list, and every item on it is real.

More agents. Vibe Island supports thirty. CrewTower recognises twenty-six and answers prompts for six of them: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code and opencode.

It runs on macOS 14. CrewTower needs macOS 15. If you are on Sonoma, CrewTower is not an option today and Vibe Island is.

You can try it first, and keep some of it. Two days free with no card, and core monitoring stays free in its Free Mode afterwards. CrewTower has an interactive website demo and no trial of the Mac app.

It reports what you spend. Input, output and cache tokens, estimated dollar spend and a per-model split, for today and the month so far. CrewTower keeps no token or cost history.

Agents on remote servers. Vibe Island deploys a small helper over SSH to Linux, macOS and FreeBSD hosts. CrewTower watches the agents on the Mac it runs on.

More places to jump to. Its exact tab and pane list adds Zellij, cmux, Zed, IDE terminals and Conductor workspaces to the terminals both apps cover.

Alerts on your phone, and your own sounds. It can notify an iPhone, and through it an Apple Watch, with the Bark app; answering stays on the Mac. It imports custom sound packs.

Your language, your store. The app is in eleven languages, and it is sold directly, on Setapp and in the Mac App Store, with a Homebrew cask. CrewTower is English only and sold on its own site.

Where CrewTower is different

It costs less, and the updates do not stop. $9.99 against $14.99 at each one's early bird price, and $14.99 against $19.99 at the regular one, both one-time. CrewTower's license includes every update released after you buy it. Vibe Island's includes one year of updates; after that the version you have keeps working.

Gemini CLI and Qwen Code are answered on the card. A Gemini CLI or Qwen Code tool call that needs approval is allowed or denied from the notch, like Claude Code's, Codex's, Cursor's and opencode's. Vibe Island's approvals guide (updated July 2026) calls Gemini CLI one-way, its changelog adds approval reminders for Gemini CLI, and neither page mentions answering Qwen Code from the notch.

Nothing is counted inside the app. CrewTower has no analytics and no crash reporting. Vibe Island's privacy policy says its direct and Setapp editions send usage analytics and crash reports, on by default, which you can turn off; its Mac App Store edition collects none.

It tells you, then stops asking. A waiting session opens the notch briefly, nudges again at one, five and fifteen minutes, then goes quiet. When the ChatGPT app itself asks you something that no hook reports, such as Plan mode's “Implement plan?”, the notch announces that too.

Three ways to say yes, and a flag before you do. The button allows once. The menu beside it allows every permission request for the rest of that session, a grant CrewTower keeps itself rather than writing into the agent's settings. For Claude Code it also offers Always allow when Claude Code proposes a rule, and Claude Code then adds that rule to the project's local settings. A shell command that deletes recursively, runs as root, forces past a safety check or pipes a download into a shell is flagged on the card before you press.

Which one to pick

Vibe Island if you are on macOS 14, want a token and cost history next to the quota, run agents on remote servers, want to try the app before paying, or live in an agent outside CrewTower's six.

CrewTower if what costs you time is the permission request sitting in a tab you are not looking at, your agents are among its six, and you would rather pay $9.99 once for updates that keep coming than $14.99 for a year of them.

CodeIsland or Open Island if you would rather not pay at all.

Questions

Is there a free alternative to Vibe Island?

Yes. CodeIsland and Open Island are free and open source, run on macOS 14 or later and answer permission prompts from the notch; Open Island describes itself as an open-source Vibe Island. CrewTower is not free: it is $9.99 once.

Does it also work if I have several Claude sessions running at once?

Yes. Every running Claude Code session gets its own card, in terminals and in the Claude app, and the ones waiting on you sort to the front. One card can also hold several requests at once, from the session and its subagents, each answered on its own.

On the card I only see “working”. Can I see what it is doing right now, like the last tool call or a progress line?

Yes. Press Activity on the card: it opens the last stretch of that session's transcript inside the card, what the agent said and what it ran, in order, newest at the bottom. For the agents CrewTower follows live, the line under the title also names the current step, and running subagents are listed beneath it.

Is it on Windows or Linux?

No. CrewTower is a Mac app and needs macOS 15 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. Of the notch apps compared here, coucou is the one that publishes Windows and Linux builds.
